Australia & New Zealand

Introduction

Australia is the only country that is also a continent. In area, it ranks as the sixth largest country and smallest continent.  Australia lies between the Indian and South Pacific oceans. It is about 5,000 miles east of Africa and about 2,000 miles southeast of mainland Asia. It is often referred to as being "down under" because it lies entirely within the Southern Hemisphere.

New Zealand is 1200 miles southeast of Australia - tucked away in a remote southwestern corner of the Pacific. We usually equate, Australia and New Zealand as being down there together in the South Pacific Ocean. But in reality, they are very far apart.

North Island is the warm, volcanic, dairy region, the home of the Maoris; while South Island is the cooler, wetter, more mountainous land, where the farmers raise sheep and cultivate grain crops.
