Dynasties

China became a unified empire in the 3rd century B.C. After this time there was a long series of ruling dynasties (ruling families) all the way up to 1911 A.D. when the last dynasty fell. Each dynasty usually had its days of prosperity followed by days of turmoil at which time another dynasty would rise up and take its place.
