CHINA
Rivers
While Egyptian Civilization grew up around one river and Mesopotamia grew up around two rivers, Chinese Civilization grew up around numerous river valleys all flowing eastward into the Pacific Ocean. The largest of these rivers is the Chang Jiang ("Jiang" translated = "River"). The Chang Jiang is the third longest river in the world behind the Nile and the Amazon. It begins in the Tibetan Plateau and snakes its way through China to flow into the Pacific Ocean at Shanghai. Agriculture abounds on the narrow strips of floodplain all along this river as well as others flowing through "China Proper".
