Imperialism

When one country seeks out new land to claim as its own, that country is creating (or strengthening) an empire. That country is said to be "imperialistic". If a group of people already live in that conquered land, it is usually up to the conquering country to determine the fate of those people-- an awful situation to be in if you are the one being conquered.

Historically, the people being conquered have not fared well. Generally, the imperialistic country dominates and imposes their culture and beliefs on the conquered people (with rare exceptions, of course). This ultimately leads to "nationalism" (click below to advance).
