THE MIDDLE EAST

PHYSICAL GEOGRAPHY

Location

Your textbook refers to the Middle East as stretching all the way across northern Africa and into southwest Asia as far east as Afghanistan. Three continents meet in this region-- Asia, Africa and Europe. Various deserts, mountains, oceans and seas surround the region isolating it somewhat from the larger continental masses. The Middle East spans six time zones from Morocco to Afghanistan. And the Middle East stretches from about 10 degrees to 40 degrees north of the equator.
